Dojo Rules

Our club rules and Dojo Kun (Training Maxim)

Within the Wado Academy, all students and members are encouraged to follow the following maxim (Dojo Kun) both in their karate training and also in their daily lives:

REIGI O OMONJI
- Respect and courtesy for everything.

SHINKENMI NI TESHI
- Be serious in everything.

SHINSHIN O KITAE WAZA O NERI
- Work hard mentally and physically and repeat techniques again and again.

JINKAKU KANSEI NI TSUTOME
- Strive to become a better person.

WA NO MICHI O KIWAMEYO
- Find peace and harmony within your life.

Dojo rules - Please read these carefully and ensure that they are adhered to at all times. 

  • Arrive on time and wait quietly until your lesson starts.

  • Keep your uniform clean and tidy. There is no excuse for a filthy suit in the dojo.

  • Do not eat, drink or chew gum in the main hall.

  • Never use bad language in the Dojo.

  • Keep fingernails and toe nails short at all times, it could be dangerous if you do not.

  • Do not wear any jewellery at any time, such as rings, earrings or necklaces.

  • Children should wait inside the building until their parents arrive to pick them up.   

  • Follow instructions and advise, try and improve yourself with every lesson.

  • Show respect for your instructors and all the others you train with.

  • Bow when you enter and leave the Dojo, doing so quietly and behaving appropriately.

  • Do not talk when your instructor is teaching

  • Whilst resting or awaiting for a lesson to start sit on the edge of the dojo with legs crossed.

  • Do not use your karate skills to harm others outside of the Dojo. You must never bully anyone.

  • Always call your instructor by the name “Sensei”. Assistant instructors should be called “Sempai”

  • Do not sit on any apparatus or equipment whilst the lesson is in progress. These are deemed as health and safety risks and therefore we don't want you falling off them!

  • Do not run around the dojo unless specifically asked in the lesson. Once booked in, children must sit down with their legs crossed and adults must stand and stretch quietly.
