Hi All, just wanted to thank all those who participated in the demo on Monday, it was a great success and many thanks to Simon who really impressed me with his Mc Skills. Funniest thing was he had to wait an extra 20 minutes before he could exchange the mic for a pint glass and then they were closing for the day!!! so only managed a couple of half pints!
The last word has got to go to the kids, during practice of which there was lots of, I was worried for them about performing on the day. But on the day, they all gave a superb performance and showed the croud what really can be achieved in our classes!! You all deserve our respect as there are few adults that would perform to such a large croud and thank you very much for your hard work!!
The only thing that was missing on the day was the stage which fell off the lorry on the M25. So we ended up having to use the bare road as our stage and most of us are going to have to use large amounts of Vanish and soap tabs to clean our Gi's.
Thanks to you all and well done!!

Hello,
I saw your demonstration today at the Haslemere Charter Fair and just wanted to say how impressed myself and my family were.
The standard of your child students was a joy to behold and they were a credit to you.
We also really enjoyed the Jujitsu bits and the knife attacks, which looked so realistic and were big crowd pleasers.
Your club came across as most professional and showed itself as a first class advert for the martial arts community.
Well done!
Jonathan.

Greetings from Sunny Florida. I'm just about to depart home and hope the flights are on time, so fingers crossed will see you in the morning at Farnham, albeit a tad jet lagged!
I just wanted to say well done to Shaun and Amir on successfully passing their 2nd Kyu's last week. I know Jack didn't make it as he got stuck in the snow, so I'm sure we can fix him up another date soon.
I had a great training session with Sensei Tyrone Pardue 5th Dan and a few of his senior students on Clearwater beach last week.
What a beautiful location that was, even though it decided to rain on us for most of the training session.
I also bumped into Monty at Universal studios one afternoon. I knew he was out there, but I didn't tell him I was going, so his face was an absolute picture.

See you on Sunday and good luck to Jamie and Tanya, who are getting married tomorrow.
Hope some of you can make it down to Bournemouth next weekend with Gordon.
Cheers.......

Just to let you know that on Saturday 26th of April, my instructor Peter Edwards will be in Bournemouth (on a social visit) and will do short course on using the sword. This is just a gentle introduction using a wooden sword and the principles.
The training hall has been booked from 1pm to 4pm. I know Saturdays can be a bit difficult for time, so if you need to leave early or can only do a couple of hours then do please still come along. I don't need a huge amount of people to come to pay for the hall so the training will only be £5.
I will have a couple of spare "bokken" (wooden swords) for those without.
The training will be at the Wessex Hotel in Bournemouth. (www.thewessexhotel.co.uk - BH2 5EU)

Raymond, missing you already.
Trained with Angela last night and she hits harder than you do! I'll need to explain the "Old bloke, needs to work in the morning" rules.
Joking aside, you've been great fun to train with, and will be missed. That said, I do expect free accomodation when Fingers play Belfast, so you've not seen the last of me.
Good luck and best wishes to you and your family.

Hi Guys
Just a quick thank you to everyone for all your friendship, patience, support and laughs over the last 2 and a half years.
It has been a great time in my life and hopefully will get to train with you all again soon - already told Julia that when we come back to visit I am bringing my Gi.
Good luck to all of you in whatever comes your way, and who knows maybe Simon, Cathy and me will be exchanging bruises before the end of the year - in the mean time, good luck Simon, hope Cathy doesn't batter you too much...
Thank you Sensei Corin for everything.
Cheers

Sorry I missed your last club session. Who are Simon and I going to bash now on Wednesdays or hide behind when grading? Find a club in NI quick and book your trip back at the end of the year to try for your brown belt with us....You know you want to!
All the best in your new job and keep in touch.

I just wanted to say a thanks and goodbye to Raymond, on behalf of everyone at the clubs who have known him over the past two and a half years. We'll be sorry to see you go and you've been a great student with a first class attitude to training. I know some of the guys will miss swapping a few bruises with you as well every Sunday and Wednesday!
And remember, if you're ever in England in the future and down our way passing Haslemere......then just keep on going!!
Seriously, maybe we can come and train with you guys in Ireland one day and vice versa, so I'm sure we'll see you in the future. Also, well done on being student of the month. Keep training hard and enjoy being back in Ireland. All the best. Corin

Hi Raymondo,
Well I will be one to say that you will be sadly missed and what am I going to do with one person less to take the micky out of me.....oh so sad!
Thanks to facebook we will be able to keep in touch if the ladies will allow me the time....ha ha....if the hareem gets any bigger I'm gonna have to ask for housing benifit :-)
You are dead right about Sensei if he is reading this, I don't think it is said enough....that he is a damn fine instructor and I would know, I have had my fair share of dummies in the past and its been a breath of fresh air to find someone who puts that much effort into every lesson to keep it interesting. As well as a wealth of experience and knowledge Sensei is always willing to give that little bit extra to go out of his way to give help in anyway he can and some of you should make the most of it!!! because there are a lot of people that don't give half that dedication to their students...nuff said!
So Raymond see ya on facebook!! and will join you for a drink defo! Best wishes mate and good luck.

Hi Guys
Just wanted to let you all know that I am going to be moving on at the beginning of April. I have been offered a job with Komatsu (decent Japanese quality) as the Warranty Manager for Northern Ireland and will be relocating back to sunny Ulster. The reason I haven't been training the last couple of weeks is due to painting the house - deep joy...
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sensei Corin for being one of the most inspirational intsrtuctors I have ever trained with. I honestly don't think people realise how much work he puts into keeping the club going with such a high level of instruction week after week, not to mention the all the guest instructors he manages to get to come to the club on a regular basis.
I have made some very good friends in the club, and you will all be missed. When I do get back into training in N.Ireland I know I won't have training buddies as good. Who are Simon and Cathy going to batter now???
Anyway, I could go on here for ages. I will be at training again next wednesday 19/3/8 and, and hopefully we can get a beer maybe after the sunday class on 30/3/8 - but we can sort that out between now and then.
I'll be keeping a regular eye on the guestbook to see how you all are getting on - and on facebook to see how many more unsuspecting young ladies Glyn managaes to recruit to his hareem.
Cheers
Raymond

Just wanted to put in a quick word to say thank you to all the Sensei's who took part in the winter course with the Grand Master and who are inspirational to us all I think. Also a big thank you to Sensei Pardue who came and gave us a fantastic lesson in body core movement which was fantastic, showing the real Wado concepts of proper weight shifting and being relaxed!!! It was good to see how Sensei broke down the movements to illustrate the proper techniques.
Also, well done to Emma and Jamie for getting their Dan grades!!

Firstly!!! I want to thank Sensei Corin for organizing Sundays lesson with Wayne Otto and thank you Sensei Otto for making the effort to give us a brilliant and humorous lesson in competition karate and its good to hear that England karate is finally getting back on track.
Simon....just because we caught you with the remnants of eye shadow make up from a throw back eighties Boy George look alike party!! poor Brendon getting the blame...shame on you...and you say I sing out of key!
Batersea dogs home made a complaint that night as your singing was winding all the dogs up! and Raymond mentioned to me that he felt like a rino had done something rather painful to a delicate part of his anatomy....you two weren't at the same party were you?
Oh yes and the key jokes are going to be coming thick and fast aren't they, as I had the misfortune to lock myself out the other night!
Posted January 24, 2008 7:50 pm
Too scared to say!!!!!
Why isn't Glyn any good at Jujitsu???
Because instead of getting the locks on.........he is always getting the locks(ed) out!!!!

Thank you Sensei Corin for organizing an excellent day's training yesterday with Sensei Wayne Otto. Brilliant - and are we privileged or what!!? Will look forward to next year too. Hmm, wonder if he could fit another one in before that...? And yes, a few bruises like everyone else as well as a HUGE blister - but so worth it. Many thanks again.

Huge thanks to Sensei Otto for an outstanding days training - already looking forward to next years course. By that stage the aches should have subsided. My hips feel like i have been through childbirth...... And I do believe the bright purple, covered in sweat look is resembles that of a ribena berry in a sauna.
As always the main thanks has to go to Sensei Corin for organising this superb event. Totally agree with Simon, we are in an association that gives so much and to get this level of tuition on a regular basis should not be ignored.
Hope everyone else enjoyed the day as much as me, and hopefully everyone aches as much too.

This is just a quick note, as I can feel the early onset of rigor mortis in my typing fingers. (rest of the body already there!)
Big thanks to Sensei's Corin and Otto for a cracking day. World class tuition like theirs doesn't fall out of the trees and the chance to train with a world champion (9 times!) should not be missed. Wake up people! How much would you pay for a golf lesson from Nick Faldo? More than 20 quid I'm sure!
Many thanks to both,
Si
P.S. Brendan, I've picked up some new tricks, so consider my current shiner an advance on some serious payback...
P.P.S. Did anyone else think "Otto's Island" would have been better as "Wayne's World"? I'm not sure I wanted to suggest that myself

Ok guys I can understand that I have a heads up here having being brought up there as a nipper but some famous facts of some of the people who come from there:-
Nelson Mandela- Freedom fighter, boxer, lawyer, political prisoner, president and 'Father of the Nation'. He founded the ANC's armed wing 'Umkhonto we Sizwe' in 1961 and led his country into the post-Apartheid era in 1994. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
Chris Barnard- Surgeon who performed the first human heart transplant in the world, in 1967. He was also the first to do a "piggyback" transplant in 1971, and the first to do a heart-lung transplant. He pioneered a system of post-operative intensive care that markedly decreased patient mortality.
No relation to you Simon?!!!
Desmond Tutu- Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Cape Town, head of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and activist. He boldly engaged in a nationwide defiance campaign under Apartheid. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984.
Last but not least, old
Enoch Sontonga- Composer and teacher who created the song that we all know and love to sing when we're tanked up "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika", I can only just spell it now let alone say it, which became the anthem of three countries and generations of Africans.
See not only is this site informative, intelligent and witty, but also a damn good laugh!
Any questions please ask someone else!!
Admin......I’ve seen his/her name on the guest book but don’t know exactly who it is! Are they part of our club?

I dont know where Corin thinks Africa is but I could swear Shane Warn comes from Australia...I bet he will be riding a bad tempered lion while slapping it with a blow up shark and casually chewing on a bit of Biltong

Hi All,
Haven't contacted for a while. I'm not on 5 months in SA and things are going well. The family is all settled and my possessions arrived eventually from the UK a couple of weeks ago.
Haven't found a Wado karate club here, but have kept up some practice and tried my hand at different things like surfing.
Not sure when I'll be back in the UK, but Merry Christmas to everyone from myself and my family in sunny SA.

Yes thanks Simon, its been a hard life!! But when you have packed in as much as me then its understandable that I may look slightly more mature...its either that or helping teach the kids on a Wednesday! After a hard days work that's enough to put years on anyone. Take Jamie for instance, the look of dread and utter fear on his face last Weds when confronted with over 30 of them was a picture!!
Thanks Sensei Corin for organising Sundays lesson with Sensei Grimes and many thanks to Sensei Grimes for coming all the way from Bristol to yet give another in depth look at a kata we all take for granted, Pinan Nidan...bet you thought it couldn't get that involved!!
Not so sure about the final Naihanchi application though..it looked like my works do last week when I was trying to salsa with girls too drunk to stand up!!! Anyway it was all great fun and highly informative.
Cheers for aged money offers too! should have enough for a state of the art electric shopping cart

Secondly, a Lilac belt is only ever awarded to double-hard ninja's in touch with their feminin side. It's the ones in the pink gi's you've got to watch.
Thirdly, Glyn assures me he is actually 23. It's just his paper round covered most of the Himilaya's.
